Growing Our Community ...

We're all here for the same reason: we want to build a fun and vibrant community for artists. Fortunately, the only thing we need to succeed are posts and that part is up to all of us. We need to post for the forum to succeed. :)

If you haven't already posted a quick message in the "Introduce Yourself!" thread, please do post and say hello. It can be as simple as you want. Just say hello. :)

Other ways to post (every post is important right now):

1. Stop by and say hello in the "A cup of coffee, a glass of wine, perhaps some espresso... pull up a chair and chat with us" thread. In fact, why not make it a daily ritual to stop by and say hello? Let us know how your day is going.

2. Post one of your artworks -- it could be a work in a progress or a finished piece. The best place to do that is in either the Mediums or Subjects areas. Let us know if you'd like some gentle critiques. Or post a comment on someone else's artwork. Just remember that we play nicely here, so be kind and generous in your remarks. If you have multiple artworks you'd like to post, the best way is to create a separate thread for each one. That will make it easier for others to view and comment.

3. Have you found a YouTube training video that you think is good and that you'd like to share? Great!: Post it in the Video Training section so we can all benefit from it.

4. Got a question about Color Theory or Mixing? Composition and Design? Framing or setting up a studio? If yes, head over to the Topics section and post your question. We guarantee that you'll start seeing helpful posts very quickly. Or do you have a tip that you'd like to share? Post that, too.

5. Got an idea for the forums? Something we've missed? Something you wish we had? Great! Create a thread in the Forum FAQs and Feedback section. We promise to respond very quickly. We've worked really hard on the design of the forum so far but we recognize that it's early days and there may be many ways to improve the forums. Let us know what you're thinking.

If we work together, we've got a real chance of building a really great community. So, let's do it! :)

I really learned a lot from WC’s soft (or hard even) critique forum(s). I’d like to see one here where one can post especially works in progress as opposed to finished pieces to get others’ opinions, critiques and advice (typically praise mixed with the critiques) …

We don't have a separate critiques forum but people are already posting works in progress. Any work, whether it's a WIP or a finished piece, can be presented with "critiques welcome" or "suggestions welcome".

Check out the painting forum in Mediums. You'll see a whole bunch of different works in progress already. :)

Hello, call me Barb. I am currently finishing a few unfinished works that have been setting around the house for months, even years. This looks like a great place to meet other fellow artists. I usually work with acrylics, but I do like to try different mediums. I've done a few water color paintings. I have tried oils, but I always seem to come back to acrylics. I'm a lover of kids and cats and nature. Hello everyone!

Hello to you to Barb, and welcome!
Do please take some time to explore the site, check the menu titles along the top of the page to see what’s available.

Hi Barb! Welcome to Rembrandt and Friends!

This is a good, fun group and we are growing. I'm glad that you chosen to join us. :)

Our community isn't growing - this was last posted in March! What should be do about it, or are we happy just to be half a dozen friends swapping jokes?

Lots of members but little interaction. … apart from ‘the few’.

Not much we can do I’m afraid … it’s up to members to use the facilities Brian kindly provided …. sad, but people seem to prefer Facebook.

Well, I use it too but it’s much easier to follow a subject, thread, person’s work in this kind of forum, rather than Fb. Thats what puzzles me, because we get requests for help on Fb ( in another forum’s fb page) when the replies would be much better accessed and detailed in the forum itself … like here!

It is a shame that more people don`t post or contribute to this forum, but I guess as Maureen says there is not much we can do about that. Fortunately though a few of us do and although it is mostly the same people, I do enjoy looking at the works posted and the general chat too.

Just the other side of the coin Tom, I never really feel I "know" anyone on the FB pages or other social media platforms. There are so many in those groups. I never really post anything just in case I may offend or say the wrong thing. I am finding that smaller groups allow people to discuss topics and get to know one another to a certain extent and are closer to real friendships than the mass media types. I know we are all virtual friends but it just seems more personal and direct. That's my take on things and if the group grows, great, otherwise I'm just happy to laugh at Brian's jokes, try to get Maureen to post some of her wonderful paintings, learn more about train spotting with Pete, educate myself with links from Tom to wonderful artists, amaze at the creativity and backstories of Christel and Beth and just wonder at how Paul can paint such realistic glass bottles (I'm sure I've forgotten someone and will regret starting this list...).
