Welcome to Rembrandt and Friends.

Individuals who haven't registered for an account can view forum content but they cannot update the content or interact with other users.

Problems loading image from phone

However, it doesn't (yet) support webp. That support is supposed to be coming in the next release. That'll be coming sometime in the upcoming months.
 
Brian, I sent the image from my phone to my email and I received it on a laptop. I sent that image from my phone to the email address that you sent me and I got a message on my phone that the email address you gave me didn't exist. Can you email me another message with your email address?
 
Hi Tom!

I just got back from a long walk. I did receive the image file. The reason it wouldn't upload is that while it's only 3MB, the image dimensions are 4032 x 3024 pixels. The max allowed by the forum software is 1000x1000.

I'll reduce the size and post it for you.

It's 9.40am here but the email still hasn't arrived Tom - but it did for Brian, so that's fine!

Definitely a painting worth seeing -

Here's one way to reduce size, on the phone edit - always the better way to show the painting anyway .... crop out all extraneous imagery!

The painting is in Oils and it's 11"x14".


It's a super painting! Don't forget to add medium and size/ :)

Tom,

If I take a photo on my iPhone, I might make some simple edits to it right on the phone. Most often, that's simply cropping the photo or changing it from portrait to landscape or vice versa.

When I want to do other things to a photo, I find it much easier to use Gimp on my PC. To change an image's size on Gimp:
  1. I start Gimp and then usually just copy the photo from where it is on the PC (often in email) and paste it into Gimp.
  2. One of the items on the top menu is "Image". To change the image size, I choose "Scale Image" from the Image drop-down menu.
  3. I change the height or width as needed (Gimp will automatically change the other for you to keep the dimensions the same) and then click on Scale to actually change the photo's size.
This is what the little Scale Image window looks like:

An image that size could never be uploaded to Rembrandt because the width and height have to both be 1000 pixels or smaller. So, in this case, I can change the larger dimension -- 6800 -- to 1000:

As you can see, as soon as I changed 6800 to 1000 and then clicked on Tab to move to the next field, Gimp changed the height to 515.

At this point, I could copy the newly-resized photo and paste it somewhere or I could use Gimp to save the smaller version with a new name that identified it as a smaller version.

If I'm doing this to upload a photo here, I can do it this way:
  1. Paste the image into Gimp
  2. Change the size of the image
  3. Click on the new post here
  4. Simply paste the image into the post.

Wow, thank you for the tutorial Brian, I'm not very computer literate but I can follow the steps you have posted. Now all I have to do is find the Gimp app and download it. Again, Thanks for your help.

With your own posts, you can edit to add anything yourself.

I have a suggestion to make, because this thread has got pretty messy and no one will find the work!

Tom, why not go to Painting and open a new thread, with title of the work, then upload your image for all to see?
If you think you might still have probs, then the easy thing is to download the actual image from my post above ( the cropped one) and re-upload that to your new thread. To download, hold your finger on the image, a menu will appear, choose Save to photos.

If you are running Windows or macOS or Linux, it will probably figure that out and provide a link to the correct download. If it doesn't, there are links near the top under the "Current Stable Version" title.

It's free but there is a little bit of a learning curve. Fortunately, there's a TUTORIALS link in the top menu. If you click on that, they have a section for Beginners. It addresses how to do a variety of easy but very helpful things.

If, however, you are looking for Gimp on your iPhone or iPad, you can search for "XGimp Image Editor" in the Apple store.
