My mind always wants to draw a story from a painting -- any painting. I don't do it on purpose; it just happens. 
My first reaction was to be unsure of where to look. My eyes were roaming around the image, seeking meaning. That's a good thing. Some things are better hidden at first.
The round ball at the bottom a first seemed like a planet earth but then I realized that it looked much more like a disco ball to me and suddenly I could see steps and windows and old-fashioned standing screens and neighboring houses and it seemed like a crazy fun hippy place out of the 60s. That's a happy image for me so I'm sticking with it.

I know what your friend means by “gallery worthy”, it means this one is a cut above the others, in their eyes, but I want to make sure you don’t think the same way.
Everything is gallery worthy. Just visit a few galleries to prove it to yourself. Gallery directors look at your work and think whether there is a potential match between your work and their customer base. They look at consistency, because they want to know what to expect, so they can make plans with your future work. They are business people and their decisions are business based. Sure, the gallery may have an aesthetic to conform to as well, but it’s never personal, and it’s not about how good someone thinks it is. that’s subjective, we’re all different.
So yes, it absolutely is gallery worthy. They all are.
